August 03, , We have 2 propane tanks on the tongue to run the stove, a sink with a hand pump, and that is all she wrote. We used to be pretty rustic campers even though I have grown rather accustomed to cgs with showers and toilets, I don’t mind pit or vault toilets. We have the solar shower bags, shower tent, and water jugs to carry water in when we get to the property. I was jsut worried we would forget something vital over miles from home. Although, there is now a Super WalMart in Minocqua and we can purchase anything we need. I want to make sure I don’t over look the obvious. Since there is no electric and no furnace and we are expecting lows in the mid 50’s, I have made some preparations to make the overnight a bit easier. I have packed extra down comforters and put the fleece sheets on the bunk ends and packed fleece sleeper jammies for both of the boys and winter jammies for DH and I. Austinado- I agree with you regarding camping “unplugged” does seem to bring us so much closer to nature and is a much quieter experience.

Well, there are 2 major reasons that I can think of off the bat: The reason for this fuel efficiency is 2 fold. Did you know that a diesel engine can have as much as a 2. The reason for longer engine life in simplest terms is because a diesel engine is designed much more heavy-duty, stronger and with bulkier, stronger steel.
Also, that compression ignition explosion in diesel engines is much more powerful than spark ignition in gasoline engines and the engine needs to be designed to deal with these forces.

We have found that the fridge doesn’t work well on 12v from the leisure battery and have disconnected the 12v supply to it. If you are connected to v hookup its pointless using the 12v LB or the gas to run the fridge anyway. We travel to site with all our chilled and frozen foodstuffs in a Coolbox until we are hooked up to v on site and our onboard fridge is up and running. We pre-freeze about 5 x of the Thermos type freezer blocks to put in the bottom of the coolbox and find that everything stays frozen for the whole day in the coolbox.
The electrical systems are quite complicated until you get used to them. It can run your fridge but v or gas is much preferable.

Doesn’t the campsite offer an ice-block freezing service? A leisure battery is the one to use, as cranking standard batteries don’t take kindly to being run until flat. Should be an easy calculation as to how long the fridge will run on a battery of a given capacity, but a friend of mine can run a coolbox for a weekend on a reasonable-sized battery. Oh, and I take it the coolbox has a fuse built in?
If not an inline fuse in the cable would be a nice thing to have. Milkie Member You’re very likely to blow it if you run it straight of the battery.

Yes, you will lose signal in a downpour but not general rain or overcast. Now that said, I have no experience with the dish system in a Hughenet system so I don’t know how robust the transmission is under similar cloud and rain conditions. I’ve only seen my two friends pull theirs out and I’ve seen a few other antennas at various campgrounds ranging from our TX state parks to Disney World.
I’ve not asked them how their signal is. When I see my two friends, it is because we are all in central TX for astronomy related reasons and so we hoped and prayed for clear skies. As I said, I have no experience with Hughesnet and have no idea how comparatively twitchy the signal is compared to TV dish reception.
Honestly, I don’t know how well Hughesnet will be doing as my own personal crystal ball thinks that the more cell phone ranges are expanded and enhanced, that will become more of the WiFi market. Our problem is that we tend to go to a couple of places where cell phone service doesn’t exist, and we just accept the fact that we’ll have a zillion emails racked up until we get to place where we can check it.

Installing RV electric hook up in a van? (llers) submitted 3 years ago by narlybookworm. A to TT (or ) adapter only passes thru one side of the v circuit, so you get v out of the v plug. Once you get the “shore” power into your van, you have the choice of having a separate electrical for it or having it tied.
These are generally heat producing devices such as light bulbs, toasters and coffee makers. Starting can be as simple as flipping a switch as in a hair dryer or power drill. Listen closely to your refrigerator and you will hear it cycle on periodically as its fan, compressor or defrost cycle starts. To continuously run the unit, you need approximately watts. However when the compressor kicks in, it requires a the additional surge watts.
As it settles into its running watt requirement of , the difference of watts can then be used to power something else. If you have a low to mid watt generator up to running watts you may opt to run your refrigerator most of the time and and rely on it keeping itself cold with the doors closed, then unplug and switch the power to other needs.
Be aware when looking at other tables on other sites which explain estimated wattage requirements. Some include the running watts already added in the surge watt column.

The amp volt 2 pole 3 wire RV service The amp service for an RV is volt with a 3 prong receptacle and a single amp dedicated breaker. Click on photos to enlarge. Frequently it is confused for a NEMA 10—30 see below with disastrous results. Due to the appearance of the TT plug, many people assume that it is to be wired for volt, but this is a volt device. This service is very simple to wire just follow the color coding for the connections if marked and use the correct size wire.
Some receptacles do not have different color screws in that case attach the black wire at 5 o’clock or right hand side when looking at the BACK of the receptacle or the 7 o’clock frontal position the WHITE wire or neutral is connected to the silver screw or opposite side of the black wire and to the neutral bar in the panel. The above amp volt service will supply 3, watts. As long as all the wires are connected to the correct terminals and everything checks out it will work.
For a amp circuit, you can use gauge wire in most locales. For a long run, though, you should use the next larger size wire.
